Eston PCN’s Lisa Bowyer has been awarded a Spotlight Certificate in recognition of her outstanding contribution to improving healthcare access for people with learning disabilities. As a Learning Disability Primary Care Link Worker, Lisa has pioneered a compassionate and community-driven initiative that is making a real difference.

For the last year we have been working with Redcar and Cleveland’ Borough Council’s Adult Social Care department to improve their service. We’re pleased to share some improvements in our ongoing efforts to enhance this service. These improvements are driven by the valuable feedback we’ve received from the community.

Over a year ago, Healthwatch South Tees received feedback from a local GP practice about issues with clinic and discharge letters from South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The next Spotlight Award is for a video created by STOMP (stopping the over medication of people with a learning disability, autism or both) and Skills for People to show how a medication review should be carried out.

Introducing our Spotlight Award – Recognising Outstanding Contributions Across South Tees

Support time Recovery (STR) workers provide practical support, advice, and guidance to individuals with mental health challenges and/or learning disabilities and who are currently in hospital.

This week, Sleights Court in Guisborough hosted one of our regular get-togethers, bringing together local community champions and volunteers for a session focused on how to improve access to health and social care for all.

We’re incredibly proud to present our very first Spotlight Award to someone who has quietly but powerfully shaped the work we do—Ian Holtby, a long-standing volunteer member of the HWST Board.

Launched last year by North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board (ICB), the Big Conversation heard from almost 5,000 women as part of a programme aiming to make the region a driving force for better women's health.

The new report - published by the region's independent Healthwatch network - used a regionwide survey and a series of focus groups to better understand what matters to women about their health.

This report summarises the findings of a community engagement project led by the Healthwatch Tees Valley Network, which gathered feedback from patients, carers, and the wider community to help the hospitals focus on areas for improvement.

This report represents the voices of patients, carers, and communities across Tees Valley, North Yorkshire, and County Durham. Through focus groups and online engagement, people have shared their experiences, challenges, and aspirations for healthcare services under the University Hospitals Tees partnership.

This report is not just a reflection of current services, but a tool for ongoing dialogue and collaboration. Healthwatch remains committed to ensuring that community voices continue to influence the development of healthcare services.
