During the session, we had a range of discussions surrounding access to health and care, with many individuals providing meaningful personal experiences. Whilst also offering free, accessible healthy heart checks through routine blood pressure checks. 10 individuals had their blood pressures checked, with many praising the service, expressing their gratitude in providing an important service in a safe, accessible and comfortable environment.

Some discussions highlighted positive experiences when using and accessing healthcare, with one lady stating she could not fault the quality of care and treatment she received at James Cook University Hospital, after frequent appointments. Whilst others highlighted particular issues particularly related to use of the NHS app, and frustration with their local GP surgery not currently registered. Others highlighted the complex communication systems when trying to book appointments, stating it can often be off putting, and leave them wanting to avoid accessing the service despite personal need.

The session provided, a strong showing of local community pride and spirit, and was great to see everyone come together and look out for one another. The discussions highlight areas for future exploration, but also offers a promising outlook that some local residents are receiving the care and treatment needed.
