Primary Care Access Recovery Programme (PCARP)

Healthwatch teams across the North East and North Cumbria began a coordinated awareness campaign in October 2025 to support the rollout of the Primary Care Access Recovery Programme (PCARP). This initiative, funded by the ICB, aims to improve public understanding and use of key NHS services that offer faster, more convenient access to care.

Throughout November & December 14 Healthwatch organisations are engaging with communities across the region, distributing leaflets, attending events, and gathering feedback through a public survey. The focus is on raising awareness of:

  • The NHS App
  • Pharmacy First
  • GP Extended Access

The campaign is designed to reach a wide range of demographic groups, including those who may not usually engage with health messaging. It has already received recognition from Sam Allen, Chief Executive of the NENC ICB, who featured the initiative in her newsletter as an example of effective collaboration.

A final impact report will be published by the end of January 2026, showcasing how this joined-up approach has helped improve access, build public confidence, and demonstrate the strength of the Healthwatch network in driving system-wide change.
