Katie Clifford - 1-1 Adult Support Worker - The Link

Katie works on a 1-1 basis providing support within outreach work around mental health

Why did you decide to become a Community Champion?

I met with Gaynor from health watch to discuss my role in adult mental health and quickly got discussing my passion for knowledge and providing people with the support they need. I have used services myself to support my family unit over the years and have always prided myself in finding the support that we have needed over the years. This led me onto my job role now and I feel becoming a community champion on top of this will allow me to keep my knowledge relevant but also share the fantastic opportunities the charity I work for provides to everyone.

I feel my lived experience alongside my job role makes me a suitable candidate for community champion as I have a lot to share and eager to learn more.

How does your role help people in South Tees?

We provide an assortment of groups that offer support with a range of complexities, and also have our living room space which hosts a number of our groups and activities to support people in the local area. These services are free of charge. My role aims to reach adults across our area to work with them on a 1-1 basis providing support within outreach work around mental health. Our service is on a mild/moderate basis around anxiety, confidence, practical and emotional support, independence and providing support around the barriers in everyday life.
