In February 2024 North Tees and Hartlepool and South Tees Hospital NHS Foundation Trusts formally came together to work in partnership. This is an exciting opportunity for the two Trusts to work together to strengthen their collaborative offer of patient care.
What is Martha's Rule? Martha Mills died in 2021 after developing sepsis in hospital, where she had been admitted with a pancreatic injury after falling off her bike. Martha’s family’s concerns about her deteriorating condition were not responded to, and in 2023 a coroner ruled that Martha would probably have survived had she been moved to intensive care earlier.

In September 2023, Healthwatch South Tees (HWST) welcomed two new Engagement & Events Officers to the team as a way to increase awareness of our function with South Tees communities and encourage additional feedback of health and care services to inform our work.
In the UK, they run a clinic, adviceline, outreach services and advocacy programmes that provide medical care, information and practical support to excluded people such as destitute migrants, sex workers and people with no fixed address.
The particular focus of this project is to improve support for the family, carers and
older people with a learning disability (aged 40+ to reflect the early onset of chronic
health conditions such as dementia) by producing effective recommendations.
We worked with in collaboration with Tees Valley Healthwatch Network and both the South Tees and wider Tees Valley reports are available to download.
In August 2023 we produced our GP Resource in collaboration with a range of professionals in response to the most common questions we heard from local people. We also wanted to raise awareness of the changes that are now in place in GP practice teams, to help people understand how to make the most of the range of options available from this service.
